Had a nosey in an old cave come bunker located near drapanos, over looking suda bay in the west of crete.
From information learned from 'ex-pats' who obviously know alll the history of the island a small cave was enlarged for the villagers to hide from the turkish invasion, then later turned into a cammand bunker by the germans in during one or both of the world wars.
The original entrance hides behind a small church, a large passage goes straight into the hill, with a parrallel passage linked at two ends with 'living rooms' then the work of the germans becomes apparrent with concrete staircases and brick re-inforced passageways linking a couple of levels and some larger rooms/chmbers
the other entrance is a small concrete 'obsrvation box' about 2 meters wide with a panoramic view of Suda bay and the sea to the north, and only one gun emplacement behind the door to keep any unwanted folk out, which is linked to the rest of the bunker by a small staircase and a 'killing pit'
Two very loud Londoners had just come out before i went in so there were quite a few bats flapping about too...
there is a large string of lights throughout, so I'm guessing at certain times of year someone may plug in a generator and light it up
Trip time About an hour
