As we were out from our Swinsto trip early, we decided to walk back up the hill and do Rowten as far as bottom of the big pitch. But when we got to bottom of big pitch we still had plenty of rope in bag so we carried on and with stripping bits of gear for rigging we got to the bottom.

Could'nt get round to the sump as the waterfall was well in flow, so we started to make our way back out, it was at this point that we realised there was a lot more water coming in than when we first started making our way down.
By the time Stu and Paul had derigged as far as the bottom of the big pitch the water was starting to back up to the ledge

Do'nt think i have ever seen so much water in there before, but suffice to say it made it a rather tasty trip ;)
Trip time 4hrs
Stu Weston, Guy ?, Paul Thomas, Simon Lyons, Keith Mason

Does'nt take long for word to get round does it, apparently Paul Thomas got some right ribbing in Bernies on the sunday.
Also with regards to evenings.....they are usually reserved for the pub ;)

I think I know what you mean; I was on a wet trip in there and it was one of the best I've ever done, absolutely awe-inspiring. On saturday we aborted our trip (Nick Pot) due partly to the weather and partly to the size of a certain party member. Walked round to Beezly falls in the evening cos of the water levels; it was in spate, reminded us of the Rowten trip and we half-joked about going in to see it but a party beckoned. And a jolly good party it was too!

Bit of a rant that!
Ian.

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
