I have been known to describe Brown Hill as my favourite cave, but looking back in my log, it turns out the cave and I have had a troubled history ... on my first visit (with my dad) in 2004 he called it a day at the Galérie Pas Mur, later the same year Fiona got as far as the 1st pitch before declaring she was ill. It then took until 2008 before a friend accompanied me to the bottom, when it so happens we did the topo for the CNCC rigging guide. That was my only successful trip, and I clearly enjoyed enough to declare it my favourite cave in the years ahead.
Fast forward 18 years and I was (finally) back. It turns out it's quite hard work, but generally in a good way, although a combination of my advancing years and a lack of decent caving for some time, meant it was more of a struggle than it should have been.
Disappointingly, it's not quite as good a trip as my memory has suggested, but I had set the bar very high and it is still a good trip with plenty of interest.
Thanks to the team. I wonder when I'll next be back?
