We lost several people from the caving team for the second day but were joined by Ros.
Loz had agreed to lead us on a trip Northern Lights in OFD, we thought that we could combine it with a visit to the Columns which are open most Bank Holiday weekends.
We found that the columns did not open until 12:00, so the majority of us elected to just do the Northern Light.
Ros wanted and easier trip so Loz arranged for a friend of her's to take Ros to the Columns.
We took the most direct line to the "not shattered column" before heading to Lavender Way  and up a couple of squeezy climbs into the Northern Lights.
This is a collection of well decorated passages. After a bit of a rummage and having taken many photos, we started to head out.
I decided to have a go at the traverse bypass to one of the squeezes. The traverse was fine, but Loz then directed me down a passage which I did not quite fit into.
After about 2 body lengths, I was stuck. Loz had to put a set of cows tails round my feet and heave to get me out.
We then found the correct route but I am still not convinced that it is any better than the squeeze climb.
Back at Cross Rift we went to the real shattered column and then on to President's Leap and a different way into Salubrious Passage and the easy way out.

Thanks to Loz for leading the trip (and getting me out after she got me stuck).

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
