The weather was forecast to be wet following a lot of rain during the week. Claire fancied some rigging practice so Rift Pot was chosen. The walk up was sunny and quite warm. I had bagged up rope the previous evening in the most suitable lengths which I had - being keen to not run out like the previous Club exchange trip had and these by chance turned out to be perfect for a hybrid route down the cave to avoid the water.
ropes taken;
entrance pitch 45m, then 22m, 42m, 60m these went into 2 tackle bags (9mm rope used) with room for some srt kit atop them.
This enabled us to cross the balcony of boulders and go down the Bob Hole route then to cross back at the next balcony to the Yorkshire Ramblers route, so avoiding most of the water from Long Kin which was in spate shall we say.
A quick about turn at the bottom and I de rigged. Despite the cursing at the few maillons used on the entrance pitch being a fiddle with cold hands all went well. The walk down was cold, windy and wet.
Trip time about 3 hours.
I wouldn't say it was a novice rigging trip, but a good choice for the more experienced caver to practice in reasonably wet conditions.
