The rain was supposed to let up, so we decided that it would be reasonable to have a go at the meets list trip "Scanty Lardos".
3 small bags packed, we headed up past Dale Head to Hesleden Bergh.
There was only a trickle in the beck, so we changed quickly and set off on the long arduous walk to the cave.
Dave headed the entrance climb first and then rigged the first and second entrance pitches.
There was then a bit of a shower bath and a long crawl/stoop in water of various depths "Ann Summer's Passage". I remembered it as any easy walk after the first couple of joint controlled corners (must be selective amnesia).
We eventually got to Joe's pitch, which involved a swing round a corner. In the shower bath at the bottom of the pitch, I took a wrong turn, following the stream, rather than the traverse above it. Keith & Rich, having done the cave before took the correct route, but did not tell us until we had had a good wallow in the stream!
Rich rigged the final pitch and we all gathered in "The Office" before heading back out, to emerge in brilliant sunshine (briefly).

Another instance where we select an obscure cave that no one visits, only to be chased down the cave by a small team from the BPC.

Team: Keith, Dave, Ros, Paul & Rich
Time: About 2.5 hours

Well done guys. I was sure that it would have been far too wet on the second pitch given the recent weather. I was there a couple of months ago with a new to caving companion and had to back off pitch two because it was very unpleasant and I didn't want to put them off!

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
