The meets list was planned to be Black Shiver Pot, early indications looked a little doubtful as the weather was looking quite wet for the weekend, but as growing numbers gathered at the hut and weather forecasts were checked it was looking like a goer, Ade, Bob and myself were keen, so we set too packing ropes for a return trip to the sump, we got the ropes into 3 bags, so it was a comfortable bag each.
The walk to the entrance went smoothly and we got within 50 metres of finding it before we needed assistance from Ade’s GPS watch to get the exact spot of the entrance.
I set off first through the flat out wet crawl, which very quickly becomes hands and knees crawling and winds it’s way towards the first pitch, the rigging of the early pitches went as well as can be expected, but the final few metres of each pitch gave us a right soaking haha.
Ade took over the rigging at thunder pot, and at the bottom of the big pitch we were in the full force of the waterfall, and all thought the same thing, wow we are going to get soaked to the skin on the prussik up haha, we didn’t let this stop us from our plan of reaching the sump, so we cracked on through the duck, and got down into north chamber, the last climb down already had an in situ rope on it so we used this, we had a quick look at the muddy foam filled sump and all said let’s get out of here before we get even colder.
we all got out without issue, and completed the trip in somewhere between 4-5 hrs, ( I forgot to check what time we entered haha )

Those along, Ade P, Bob R, Phil H

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
