Six people turned out for caving today. Two (Adrian & Phil) were keen on Black Shiver and persuaded Long Bob to go along. The remaining three decided to have a go at Tatham Wife to the duck.
We parked in the quarry near Ingleton and headed up the Fell Road. We soon got the idea that this was not the best approach, but carried on anyway. After a bit over an hour's walking, the last section over pathless bog, we arrived at the cave.
This was damper than I remembered, but I had only done it in August before. There was also more awkward passage than I remembered (perhaps I was younger when I last did it). We eventually found the first pitch which was closely followed by the second and third pitches. Then there was another awkward section that I had forgotten, before we arrived at the head of the ramp. The time was getting close to half way to our call out, so Ros said she would stay at the top. I descended to the rebelay, but did not like the look of the slot onto the second part of the pitch. So Paul was the only one to complete the intended trip.
I did spot a hanger near the top of the ramp, which (I am told) can be used to bypass the duck.
We made our way quickly out of the cave and down to the car park and even got back to the hut before our call-out.
