Once down the initial ladder Voldemort starts with a tight crawl which took a couple of attempts for some of us.  After the first pitch (which was pre-rigged) the passage you’re not supposed to take was blocked with a waste high wall -  too subtle a hint for us as we went the wrong way anyway.  It turned out to be well worth the detour though as the decorations were spectacular.Back on the correct route (in the opposite direction) an acrobatic trapeze/Tyrolean traverse was required to gain the in situ down rope which leads to a rebelay where you exit stage right onto a rigged 7m traverse..  By now we were expecting all pitches to be rigged allowing a much easier exit via Nott2.  So, of course, the third pitch wasn’t equipped so we rigged for a pull through, but decided to check we could get through the squeezes to the 4th and final pitch before pulling the rope down.  We couldn’t all get through the first squeeze so we decided to retreat.  Nigel went ahead for maybe a hundred meters but didn’t reach the 4th pitch. It’s definitely one to revisit to do as a pull through but we’d probably take a 20m rope to abandon on the 3rd pitch (giving us an exit if needed) and only carry pull through ropes for the 4th pitch (2 x 55m).Team: Nige Berry, Dave Chadwick, Ros White, Paul Magson

About

There are many club organised caving weekends, with a mixture of easy and difficult caving.  Over the past few years we have given lots of people the opportunity to experience caving with our "Try Caving" events.  These are quite popular and quite a few people have subsequently joined the club. We have YSS members caving most weekends so it is easy for new cavers to tag onto the easier caving trips and find people to help with more training.
