The Coach meet to Nidderdale saw 9 of us venture in to Manchester Hole and then in to Goyden.
I arrived (with Rich and Emma see previous forum threads) to be handed a piece of paper from Stu that described a route that is the exchange between Manchester and Goyden.
The others set off - and we quickly got changed whilst reading what will be now known as "Google" caving.
Is it possible to Google Whack Caves?? If you don’t know what I mean ask Dave Gorman
The description sends you off up some muddy passage at 180 degrees to the sump then brings you out after a couple of climbs in Bax Pot (Just above Goyden).
After some rummaging around up stream we set off in to Manchester Hole proper following the stream until we got to the muddy stream bypass which was climbed and traversed.
We made are way back to the water and followed down to the start of the "Google cave" took a couple of looks and decided that on a cold frosty morning we'll take a look from the other direction on the way out.
We made our way in to Goyden following the others at distance. Having a quick scurry around the top taking in the view from the window, then descending in to the main stream way. We stopped when i heard voices (not for the first time I might add) but still couldn't work out where they were coming from. Then light in the distance was quickly interrupted by Stu's voice "Chris we'll be there in a minute" they had just been to look down some passage Bob had pointed out.
A few minutes later we all met up in the stream way - with Google Caving part deux Stuart’s figure of 8 route from 5 ways. Making our way through the Labyrinth passing through five ways and ascending the ladder at 10 foot climb. After some pottering in various passages it was decided to turn round and exit via Cp left crawl Terri was under the impression there were some formations worth seeing – bizarre as there was hardly any room for me?
Various groups split after the crawl some making a nearly exit, whilst the intrepid amongst us made our way once again to the main stream way, climbing the chain that leads Gaskell’s passage exiting via a series of ladder and rope climbs to daylight and the Church pot entrance.
Needles to say – we didn’t take a look on the way out. . .
Chris
