As soon as anyone discovers that I enjoy an afternoon underground, the question which inevitably follows is WHY?
My answer is always a garbled message refering to the great outdoors, personal challenge, it is good to be different and nobody can reach me by mobile phone.
Actually, as all female cavers know there are much more important reasons for indulging in a few hours underground.
- Mud packs are freely available for liberal application.
- The air underground is full of ions particularly beneficial to the fairer complexion.
- Muscles are suitably exercised and toned.
- Plunge pools are at optimum temperature at all times.
- There is never a queue for the power shower....

Yes, the real reason is that Sunday underground is the equivalent to an afternoon at a spa, not forgetting that there is legitimate reason for a cooked breakfast, chocolate stops and at least an hour soaking in the bath tub upon returning home.
I apologise to any female cavers if I have let the cat out of the bag for those of you who have been conning male cavers into believing
